Second Reading of Bill 106 (To Amend the Condo Act): The Beat Goes On…

For those of you wondering where Bill 106 presently stands in the Ontario Legislative Assembly, it is still being debated in second reading.

You will recall that the Bill was first tabled on May 27, 2015. The Bill was tabled for second reading on September 15 by David Orazietti, the Minister of Government and Consumer Services.  Since then, it has been debated for more than 7 hours.

After a 6-day break of the Legislative Assembly, the debate resumed on September 23. Some 45 minutes into the debate, the Acting Speaker (Paul Miller of the Hamilton East-Stoney Creek riding) interrupted the proceedings and announced that there had been more than six and one-half hours of debate and that the debate would be deemed adjourned unless the government House Leader specified otherwise.  The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport directed that the debate should continue. The debated continued for another 30 minutes and continued on September 24.

Now, after a total of 8:45 hours of debate, the second reading has been adjourned to continue on September 28

… and so the condo beat goes on…

Bill 106 is aimed at revamping the Condominium Act and at enacting other condo-related legislation. The complete text of the proposed legislation can be viewed here.
